cENTRE CITY WEIGHTLIFTING CLUB
Olympic Weightlifting helped bring Centre City Gym into existence. Owner, Ed Puopolo got into the sport in the 70s and competed locally and nationally for almost 2 decades. After traveling to other gyms and a lack of local places to train Ed decided to open his own facility.
Thus, the team was born. Throughout the late 80s and early 90s a multitude of great lifters trained here. World level athletes like Lauren Andrews and of course Ed. They trained under the guidance of Dennis Reno a USAW legend. The early 2000s saw a lull in the sport but Ed's son Dominic and a few others kept the CCG weightlifting team alive. In the 2010's an influx of athletes came into the sport and back to our platforms. Since then, the weightlifting team has been highly competitive in local meets and even earned a national medal from team member Dominic. Under the coaching and guidance of Ed CCG weightlifting has built a solid foundation of lifters with sound technique and incredible potential. CCG Weightlifting made it official in 2020 by registering as an official USAW club. The club has multiple certified USAW coaches and has recently upgraded and expanded the lifting area. CCG Weightlifting continues to grow and welcome any athletes who are looking to compete to join!
